In March 2001 Professor Vladimir Fedorovich Lazutkin untimely died. He left a valuable heritage of pioneering mathematical ideas and results in various fields of mathematical physics. He played an important role in mathematical education at St. Petersburg University presenting new modern courses of lectures and teaching many postgraduate students. He was a member of the editorial board of the journals "Nonlinearity", "Differential Equations" and "Regular and Chaotic Dynamics".
This workshop was initiated by friends and colleagues of V. F. Lazutkin and gives an opportunity to pay tribute to his memory. The dates are chosen between two large mathematical conferences: in Moscow (August 11 17) and in Beijing (August 20 28). A visit to the grave of V. F. Lazutkin will be organized.
